Our law firm was founded in 1932 by Raymond B. Mallard.
D. Frank McGougan, Jr. joined Raymond B. Mallard in 1951, and together they practiced law for several years before Raymond B. Mallard became a Superior Court Judge in 1954. Later, he became Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 1968.
O. Richard Wright, Jr. joined the firm in 1971, practicing law with D. Frank McGougan, Jr. The firm name was changed to McGougan and Wright in 1971.
Dennis T. Worley joined the firm in 1981, practicing law with D. Frank McGougan, Jr. and O. Richard Wright, Jr. The firm name was changed to McGougan, Wright & Worley, LLP on December 30, 1983.
In 1992, O. Richard Wright, Jr. and Dennis T. Worley opened an office in Whiteville, North Carolina. Around this time, D. Frank McGougan, Jr. discontinued the active practice of law.
D. Frank McGougan, Jr. passed away on March 20, 1994.
Paul J. Ekster joined the firm in 1999.
In May 2001, Kenneth R. Moss opened up the firm office in Little River, South Carolina.
On January 3, 2011, O. Richard Wright, Jr., Dennis T. Worley, Kenneth R. Moss, and Paul J. Ekster formed Wright, Worley, Moss & Ekster, PLLC. A branch office in Myrtle Beach was also opened.
In May 2011, Harold “Butch” Pope merged his long-time practice with Wright, Worley, Moss & Ekster, PLLC, and they all formed Wright, Worley, Pope, Ekster & Moss, PLLC.
In 2013, the firm added two second generation attorneys in Elizabeth Wright Embrey and Boyd Tyler Worley.
